Santa Told He Needs To Get A Business License

(Memphis) One of Santa’s special helpers got a surprise when he was told by Shelby County worker he had to get a business license or park that sleigh for good.

William Mitchell started helping Santa Claus about six Christmases ago.

Mitchell liked the happy feeling the job brought and the small, but helpful extra income.

“It brings happiness to people and it’s not only the kids,” said Mitchell who specializes in adult Christmas parties where he does standup comedy.

This year, he’s trying to generate more business.

Mitchell sent a flyer to the Shelby County Clerk’s Office saying he would love to work their Christmas party this year.

They didn’t hire him.

Instead, they sent him a letter saying he better come buy a business license or they would turn him over to the district attorney’s office for prosecution.

The clerk’s office told us anyone who sells a service must have a business license.

The catch is the business must bring in more than $3,000.

Last year, Mitchell only made about $100.

Mitchell didn’t know that at the time and bought the $30 business license as he was told.

“I want them to get off my back, return my $30 and let me keep the wolf away from my door,” said Mitchell.

He says the Grinches at the clerk’s office better give him his $30 back or else…

“If they’re expecting anything other than switches and ashes for Christmas they are suffering from a delusion,” said Mitchell.

Since News Channel 3 got involved, the clerk’s office says Mitchell can come by and fill out some paperwork saying he doesn’t make $3,000 as Santa’s helper and they will give him his $30 back.
