(Memphis) A man is in jail accused of posing as a veteran on an internet dating site to con a woman out of $75,000.

Ronald Chessman told the woman he could invest her money in the military through his contacts.

The woman wrote him a check for $50,000 and wired him an additional $25,000.

She called authorities when Chessman couldn’t show her any proof of the investments.

Investigators say Chessman never served in the military.

He’s now charged with Theft of Property and Criminal Impersonation.

Bank records show he spent the victim’s money on a number of things, including a trip to Jamaica.
