Millington Storm Clean Up Begins

(Millington, TN) Crews were hard at work in the Westside Community Thursday morning after storms blew through Wednesday night.

A line of severe storms brought down trees and power lines in the mobile home community. The Millington Fire Department said 7 mobile homes were destroyed.

“It was awful.  My trailer was just shaking. I was scared to death and praying.  I was praying ‘God I’m ready to go  but not right now,’” said resident Rebecca Casey. Casey’s home only had minimal damage but her next door neighbor’s home was split in half by a tree.

No one was injured despite the heavy damage.

“A lot of the trailers that were in here were empty, so there was a lot of damage to a lot of those trailers. There are a lot of people when they do issue the tornado warning they do evacuate,” said Millington Fire Chief Gary Graves.

“We’ve also made contact with the Red Cross to come out here and to assist those who are not going to stay in their trailers tonight,” said Graves.

The residents who lost their homes will be moved to another trailer in the community. Thursday crews worked to remove trees and stabilize the trailers so that residents could recover their items safely.
