(Ripley, TN) The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is looking for the person gunned down a 24-year-old Ripley, TN man. Investigators are not releasing much information.
Family members told News Channel 3 the man killed was 24-year-old Courtney Johnson, the father to a three-year-old boy.
"He was a sweet boy and a good daddy to his son and all [his son] keeps saying is he wants his daddy," said Joyce Pillow, the victim's mother-in-law. "It had to be some cruel and harsh person to do this."
A man who lives on Gabrielle Cove says he heard the gunshots around 11:30 Thursday night and looked out of his window, but didn't see anything.
That man found Johnson in the yard on the side of his house around 7:00 Friday morning. The witness claimed that he appeared to have been shot to death.
Johnson's friends and family members gathered in the cove in front Johnson's home Friday afternoon. They are devastated by, what they call, a senseless crime. Family members says Johnson was a good man and did not belong to any gangs. They don't know why anyone would want to kill him.
"I just wish someone would come forward and tell us who did it because Courtney didn't deserve any of this," said Pillow.
Johnson's body was sent to the Shelby County Medical Examiner's Office in Memphis to get a full understanding of how he died.
The Lauderdale County District Attorney's Office says they will be putting out more information on this murder on Monday. If anyone has any information that could help investigators, you're urged to call the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND.
