(Memphis) It may be two more months before city councilwoman Janis Fullilove's husband is allowed to move back home.

Fullilove and her husband, Vernon Chalmers, are both facing domestic assault charges, and hope their legal troubles can be handled outside the courtroom.

Fullilove was supposed to go before a judge today, but instead her lawyer met with the DA's office to try to resolve the case.

Fullilove's attorney, Arthur Horne, says she wants to reconcile with her husband, and have the charges dropped, "He, again, has some serious health issues, and Janis has pretty much been his caretaker and I think that is sort of the overriding issue, and emotional for my client right now."

Fullilove and Chalmers were arrested at their home back in August after that got into a fight.

Horne says the couple may be ordered to get counseling.

They will be back in court in December.
