(Memphis) Fire investigators are trying to figure out what caused an early morning fire that killed a North Memphis man Wednesday.
The fire broke out around 1:15 a.m. in the 1500 block of Sunset St., which is near Chelsea Ave. and Warford St.
Firefighters say heavy smoke was coming from the home when they arrived. Two people had already managed to get out of the burning home, but firefighters later found the body of the 91-year-old man inside one of the bedrooms.
“Our hearts truly go out to this family and to the loved ones of the deceased,” said Lt. Wayne Cooke of the Memphis Fire Dept.
The man’s body will be taken to the Shelby County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
The Red Cross has been called in to help the two people displaced by the fire.
