Woman Beaten and told to ‘find money’ on Facebook
(Memphis) A broom, a bed post, and a tire iron are all items police say Maurice Johnson used to hit his girlfriend. Police say the assault was over money, and he asked her to go on Facebook to get him some cash.
The assault began Sunday afternoon inside a home on Ford Road. Police say Maurice Johnson went to his girlfriend’s home asking for money. When she didn’t have it police say he picked up a broom, hit her twice in the leg and once in the shoulder.
Then he reportedly told her, “I need something harder than this broom.”
So, police he say he grabbed a tire iron, beat her with that, then broke a bed post over her legs.
The affidavit says Johnson wasn’t done terrorizing her. He told her to get on Facebook and “find some money.”
So, she Facebook messaged a friend, and the physical assault continued.
According to the affidavit, Johnson then hit his girlfriend several times in the face, tied her hands behind her back, put her in a closet and slid the dresser over the door.
Johnson let her out after ten minutes, but only because police showed up. The affidavit says he started begging, “baby, please give me one more chance.”
“That’s really amazing and really hard to believe a person would do that,” Adagio Aldridge said.
Aldridge and her daughter live near the victim.
“When I saw the police I went to tell my mom because I didn’t know what was going on,” Madison Adams said.
Both were shocked to hear what was allegedly happening just doors away.
“Hopefully she gets away from this person,” Aldridge said. “She is blessed she’s still alive.”
News Channel 3 spoke to the victim by phone, she said she is recovering from the attack, but declined an on camera interview.
Meanwhile, Johnson remains jailed on $40,000 bond charged with Aggravated Assault and Kidnapping.
