MLGW Has Warning For Spanish Speaking Customers

(Memphis) Memphis Light Gas & Water is warning Spanish speaking customers of a new scam targeting them.

Customers are reportedly receiving calls in Spanish falsely telling them their payments have not been received and they could be cutoff.

The customer is then told to buy gift cards which can be used for utility payments.

According to MLGW, “The scammer also provides the customer with a phone number to call back once the customer has purchased the cards, then requests that payment be made with the cards.

  • That a government program will help pay the customer’s bill after the gift card payment is made.

At least 15 complaints have been reported to MLGW.

Customers who believe they have been victimized by this or any other scam should contact MLGW at 544-6549.
