(Memphis) Do you think you know what good barbeque is when you taste it? Think again.

If you want to be a judge for the World Champion BBQ Cooking Contest during Memphis in May, you’ve got to be qualified and certified.

Right now, Memphis in May is offering a judging seminar to the first 100 applicants who want to be a barbeque judge.

They say it’s not just knowing what tastes good, but understanding flavor, texture and tenderness.

The one day course in November costs $79.

Diane Hampton with Memphis in May says its well worth the investment

“Absolutely,” said Hampton.  “Ask any judge. The proof is in the pork. There is nothing like competition barbeque.”

Hampton says they need 500 judges every year to judge the World Champion BBQ contest.

If you would like to  be considered, the deadline to apply for the seminar is November 2.
