(Horn Lake, MS) A Horn Lake family says when their neighborhood became the target of vandalism and break-ins, they put up security cameras around their house.

Within two months, they caught a criminal in the act.

In the video, the guy creeps-up to their home, steals a bike and ride away.

The theft is captured on multiple security cameras on the Bhattacharjee family home.

”We recently got the cameras in light of all the incidents,” said Sonya Bhattacharjee.

If your home has also been targeted by crime, you may want to consider getting cameras too.

“We are starting to see more and more as the years click by,” said Horn Lake Police Lt. Scott Evans.

Lt. Evans says as the price of cameras go down, more people are getting them and it’s helping detectives solve crimes and courts prosecute criminals, like the guy in the video when he is caught.

“In court it’s going to be hard for him to deny taking the bike,” said Lt. Evans.  “When you can play the tape for the judge and say ‘your honor, here is the evidence right here’.”

Evans says a simple web camera can cost as little as $70 but some people spend thousands on security systems.

Bhattacharjee says their eight cameras cost them  $1,500.

“Is it worth the investment?” asked Reporter Sabrina Hall.

“Absolutely. Being handicapped it’s always nice to know who is coming to the door because I can’t defend myself as easily,” said Sonya.

Because they also bought security lights as well, the cameras helped capture the guy stealing their bike clear as day.

“It’s a very good piece of evidence,” said Lt. Evans.

If you happen to recognize that bike thief in the video call DeSoto County Crime Stoppers at 662-429-TIPS.
