Red Panda Cub is Newest Zoo Baby
(Memphis) The Memphis Zoo has announced the birth of a red panda cub.
Justin was born July 1 to parents Ryo and Pele, two of the three red pandas on display at the Memphis Zoo.
He is the first red panda cub born at the zoo since 2005 when his mother Pele born there.
Justin is being hand-reared by zookeepers because his mother is unable to care for him. He is being fed milk in the hospital and will remain there for at least another month. The zoo has not determined when Justin will be put on display.
The Memphis Zoo also announced that another red panda cub will soon move to Memphis from the Bronx Zoo. Zookeepers say the prefer to raise red pandas in pairs and that Justin and his new friend will hopefully become mates.
