(Southaven, MS) Stateline Road got a little deserted years ago, as stores moved down to busier Goodman Road.

But now, things are changing.

New development has Stateline Road ready to shine once again.

Several years ago, Southaven dubbed Stateline Road its “Main Street” in the hope it would draw traffic there.

”It’s recently started picking up since we’ve been here. We’ve seen an increase,” said Antique store owner Michael Lee.

He says business has picked up too, and it’s not lost on others.

All along the street, you’ll see storefronts under renovation, and new ones going up.

There are about half a dozen total.

”We’ve kinda seen a burst of growth in the commercial areas anyhow, so you put the tax incentives and the commercial growth all together and that’s what made it explode” said Southaven Planning Director Whitney Choat-Cook.

Incentives like tax freezes and extra-low interest loans have drawn businesses like a new RaceTrac travel center with a totally new design, and talk of a new tenant for the long-vacant K-Mart building.

It’s bringing in a new mix of retail and restaurants Michael Lee believes, will benefit his business, “We need more retail space, more retail places to come to and I think it’s awesome. I’m excited about it”.

The explosion in development here is expected to see all the storefronts occupied and even bring the addition of two new buildings.
