5-year-old Left On Hot Daycare Van For Hours
(Olive Branch, MS) An Olive Branch mother’s 5-year-old was locked inside a hot van, instead of in the safety and care of his daycare workers.
Now, the child is at home with his mother.
She told News Channel 3 he is so traumatized by what happened, he won’t even talk about it with her.
Tuesday, it was business as usual at Faith Preschool Academy in Olive Branch wheret police are investigating how a small child could be abandoned, locked inside a daycare van for close to 3 hours.
“It’s really scary that this could happen,” said mother Lee Floyd.
Floyd told News Channel 3, the daycare van is supposed to pick her son up from elementary school and take him to the Olive Branch preschool.
Monday, when the working mom went to pick up her 5-year-old son from the preschool, he wasn`t there.
She and a worker started frantically searching for the missing 5-year-old, ” When she came back, she had him in her arms. I said ‘don’t tell me he has been in the van this whole time.’ It had been almost 3 hours,” said Floyd.
Floyd said her son was covered in sweat.
Outside, the temperature spiked to nearly 90 degrees.
Inside the van it was much hotter, so she took him to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.
“He said he was crying. He tried to get out, but the doors wouldn’t open. I asked him ‘what were you doing the whole time baby?’ He said, ‘I was just sleeping,” said Floyd.
Tuesday, the mom stayed at home to take care of her son, ” I don`t know what to do. It’s scary if I can’t trust anybody else.”
News Channel 3 reached out to the owner of the preschool, he did not want to talk on camera.
The owner told News Channel 3 that the safety of the children attending the school is their main priority.
They are waiting on the results of the police investigation.
