(Phillips County, AR) A 5-year-old child was caught in the crossfire during a shootout in Helena-West Helena, Arkansas.

Bullet fragments hit the little girls arm August 10.

Tiffany Fowler vividly remembers the chaos that broke out the apartment complex where she lives, “We heard the shots. It was like four or, I heard four or five of them.”

Fowler said the girl, Raveous, was hit by a bullet as she played in a small courtyard, “It’s kind of messed up that the kids can’t come outside and play in their community without having to worry about getting shot with bullets.”

Those bullets started flying after two men got in a shootout on Franklin Street.

“When I saw the ambulance and police, that really kind of scared me, I though she was hurt. You know, hurt bad.”

Fowler is upset because her 6-year-old daughter could also have been hit, “My daughter could have been out here. cause when she’s here they play together out here.”

Police arrested Markell Wilson the night of the shooting.

Six days later, they arrested Jimmy Ross.

Now, both are behind bars on several felony charges.

The girl has recovered and is back at school.

St. Torry White has two children at the apartments.

He’s glad the little girl’s going to be okay, but he know things could have turned out a lot worse, “They scared to come around the corner now. It’s very disappointing, especially when you got children around here and they scared to come outside and play. You never know cause a bullet ain’t got no name on it.”

Jimmy Ross’s bond is set at $110,000 while Markell Wilson’s bond is set at $60,000.

Both are scheduled to appear in Phillips County Circuit Court in October.
