Brazilian Man Survives Pole Through Head
A Brazilian man ended up with a bit more than a headache this week following an accident on Wednesday which left a 6-foot metal pole stuck in his head.
Construction worker Eduardo Leite, 24, was at work this week when a pole fell from the 5th floor of a construction site, breaking through his hard hat and exiting through his right eye socket.
Reports claim that firefighters cut the pole to a length of 2-foot prior to taking Leite to Rio de Janeiro’s Miguel Couto Hospital.
Essinger told Globo.com that the pole crossed into a part of Leite’s brain which was responsible for emotions and could have resulted in loss of memory and disorientation. Essinger went on to say that Leite suffered none of these symptoms and is doing remarkably well following the 5-hour surgery?
Doctors claim that if the rod entered Leite’s skull 3 inches to the side, he may have lost motor function in his arms and legs. Another inch to the right, and he would have lost an eye.
Leite’s recovery is uncertain and he may be released from the hospital as early as next week.
