Teacher Indicted For Having Sex With A Student

(Panola County, MS) A teacher in Tate County, MS has been charged with having sex with a student. Twenty-five year old Jonathan Tyler Goolsby has been indicted for having oral and vaginal sex with a female under the age of 18.

Goolsby was formerly a World History teacher and coach at Senatobia High School. The indictment indicates this happened between March and April of 2012.

“Everyone is at the school was like did you hear about Coach Goolsby,” Senatobia Sophomore Charnice Heard said.

In a town of 7,000 people it didn’t take long for news to travel that former Senatobia High School Coach Tyler Goolsby was indicted on two counts of sexual battery. He’s accused of having sex with one of his students, believed to be 16 years old.

“I mean that’s pretty terrible to find out something about a  teacher,” Heard said. “That’s pretty bad.”

Heard was in Goolsby’s social studies class last years.

“He was a pretty cool teacher everybody liked him and everyone thought he was pretty cute,” she said.

She says rumors that he was having a relationship with a student started to fly around campus in April.

“When we went to lunch she was still in the room with him.. They were actually alone. That’s when rumors started to go around,” she said.

Students are disturbed to learn the rumors appear to be true.

“He let me down pretty bad because I was looking up to him,” Heard said.

“I was super shocked at first and I was kind of sad because I always thought he was a good teacher,”Senatobia Junior Maya Hill said.

Parents are also upset. They say the school left them in the dark.

“I wish they would have contacted the parents.and notified of what was going on but I hadn’t heard anything,” Parent Lavangela Heard said. “I’m just shocked. I  hadn’t heard it until you knocked at the door so I’m in disbelief.”

Disbelief that turned to disappointment that a teacher they liked and looked up to is now charged with a sex crime.

The school district confirmed to News Channel 3 that Goolsby no longer works at the district, but would not tell us when his employment ended. Students say when they went to take their final exams their teacher was suddenly gone.
