“Memphis Rocks” Shirts Help Fund Fallen Officer Memorial
(Memphis) Remembering our fallen officers, one group is trying to raise money to honor Memphis police officers who have died in the line of duty.
Decked out in Blue Suede Shoes, Johnny Pitts of the Lipscomb Pitts Breakfast Club spent part of his Friday shooting a commercial for the new Memphis Rocks T-Shirts.
“You look at the t-shirt you see all the famous things about Memphis, everything from barbecue to Elvis to FedEx forum.
The t-shirt isn’t just a conversation starter, “to build Memphis up, to promote our community, enrich business,” said Pitts.
The breakfast club hopes Memphians will give up 20 dollars for the t-shirt and in turn, help honor those who gave their lives to protect the city.
“There have been 62 officers killed in the line of duty, we really don’t have a way to memorialize we are in the process of building a statue and memorial for them,” expressed Pitts.
That memorial will stand about 9 feet tall in front of Oak Court mall. It features a little girl handing an American flag to an officer.
“We felt a need to honor them properly, we felt like we ought to start something,” said Pitts.
To finish what they started, the breakfast club needs to raise one million dollars, 100 percent of the profits will to the memorial.
