100+ FedEx Workers Sickened by Hazardous Material

UPDATE 5:34 A.M.: The Memphis Fire Department says a forklift driver punctured a five-gallon barrel containing a concentrated form of chili pepper used to make pepper spray.

117 workers experienced side effects and were treated on the scene. Only one person, a 53-year-old man, was taken to the hospital for chest pains.

(Memphis) Approximately 125 FedEx employees were sickened by some sort of chemical inside a building at the FedEx Super Hub around 2:30 a.m.

Firefighters are still treating the workers who complained of chest pains and breathing problems.

News Channel 3′s Candace McCowan reports the incident was inside the building which handles hazardous materials shipments. All labeled hazardous shipments including biological and radioactive materials are inspected for leaks and then shipped to the appropriate locations.
