AR Inmate Captured After Jumping Through Courtroom Window…AGAIN
(Harrisburg, AR) A story you’ll on read here on wreg.com.
A Poinsett County inmate is back behind bars after making a daring escape in Harrisburg, AR.
As we found out, it’s something he’s tried, with success, before.
News Channel Three video journalist Mike Suriani was in Harrisburg as Chad Costner’s freedom came to an end.
He asked Costner, “Why did you jump through the window?”
Costner had no response as deputies took him back to the Poinsett county jail, and eventually, another appearance in court.
Costner was in court Tuesday morning for a bond hearing, when he ran through the jury room, opened a window, and jumped out.
He ran into the woods nearby and was able to elude deputies until he was caught Wednesday afternoon.
According to Bondsman Kevin Caldwell, Chad Costner is not a stranger to the criminal court in Harrisburg, “Chad has been in and out of jail four or five times over the last four years.”
Caldwell says his bonding company has helped “free” Costner more than once.
He told us Costner has escaped before, “I honestly believe he thinks it’s a game, to see if he can do it. He’s gone out that same window, in that same room, twice.”
We tried several times to reach Poinsett County Sheriff Larry Mills about the incident.
We wanted to know if Chad Costner was handcuffed and wearing “leg irons” when he was in court Tuesday morning.
No one in the Sheriff’s office returned our calls, or provided any details about the escape.
Caldwell says based on Costner’s history, deputies should have been better prepared, “I would have thought that he would have had more chains on him, or had a guard just for him. But that’s not for me to make that decision. That’s for whoever is in charge of the Sheriff’s office.”
Deputies found Costner hiding at his mother’s house.
He was doing time for burglary and other charges.
