No Arrest in Downtown Murder
(Memphis) Memphis detectives are working to solve a murder mystery downtown.
A woman was found dead Tuesday night at the Renaissance apartments on Main Street, but no one yet is in custody for the crime.
Dean Pere lives just feet away from where the body was found, “My apartment is right next to the stairwell on the 20th floor.”
He says police interviewed him after someone found the woman’s body in the stairwell on the 19th floor.
We’re not showing you the pictures, because they’re too gruesome, but News Channel 3 saw a trail of blood in the staircase from the 23rd floor to where the woman died.
“I feel sad for the woman,” said Pere. “It`s just that somebody knew her that got in.”
Pere says somebody had to have let the killer into the building, since residents need a scan card to get in.
But people who live here say management told them the woman who was murdered, did not live in the building.
A notice was posted for residents on the elevators informing them of the death.
The notice said police should be releasing some information soon.
So far, no word from investigators on who the victim is or what happened in the stairwell.
We called the medical examiner asking for information but were told they can’t release any since it’s a Memphis Police homicide investigation.
