5-year-old Disappears from School
(Memphis) – A Memphis mother is outraged after her 5-year-old daughter disappeared from her elementary school.
The 5-year-old girl was put on a school bus after class on Monday. Problem is, she doesn`t ride the bus.
When Andrea Sherrod went to Ford Elementary school Monday afternoon to pick her up her daughter,Alexandra, she says she was nowhere to be found.
“I don’t know where my child is and I’m about to have a nervous breakdown,” she said.”I’m supposed to pick her up at 4:15 I’m here at 4:07 to get her and she’s gone.”
So she tracked down her child’s teacher, who didn’t give a comforting answer as to where she could be.
“She said I don’t know I think I might have could have put her on a bus. But I’m not sure if I put her on a daycare or a Memphis City School bus.”
After frantically searching the school, Sherrod learned there was another child from the same classroom also missing.
Memphis Police were called to help with the search. Both children were soon found on buses.
Alexandra was found on Levi Street about a mile from her home.
“I was scared of the bus,” she said.
She told us she was put there by her teacher.
“The teacher said I’d get in trouble if I didn’t get on the bus,” she said.
While she’s now safe at home, Sherrod wants answers as to why her daughter was ever put on a bus.
“For you to lose not one but two (children) the same day at the same time. There’s just no reason for that,” she said.
In a statement, Memphis City Schools called it an unfortunate isolated incident and said that staff is being retrained.
“We are very sorry for this happening. All teachers have a dismissal procedure. They have gone through the procedures again to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”
