(Millington,TN)  Children filed off buses into the arms of their parents after being locked inside their elementary school for hours while police searched nearby for a robbery suspect.

“We had to shut off the lights, I didn’t know what to do I was pretty much scared,” said one student.

Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies started searching for an armed robbery suspect Friday morning.

They tracked the suspect to a field which happened to be next to Millington Elementary. But while officers searched the corn field for the suspect, other deputies found him someplace else.

Deputies don’t know if the man they tracked was a second suspect or someone different.

“We would rather air on the side of safety and caution,” said Chip Washington, spokesman for the sheriff’s department.

Some parents thanked the school, others hate that students were inside for so long.

“It’s  been a whirlwind in the last several hours of emotions. Not knowing what’s going on in school,” said Ashley James, parent of one of the students.
