Suspect In Custody While Robbery Victim Still In Coma
(Memphis) Eric Wade wants to know why a group of teens decided to rob and beat a 61-year-old man in his downtown apartment building, “Somebody must have known something, it got to be something, somebody in the building that must have known him or stay in the building or got friend in the building or something.”
Wade lives at the Edison Apartments on Jefferson, where Memphis Police said 61-year-old Jessie Wilson was brutally beaten July 25th.
A friend found Wilson after he didn’t answer or return phone calls.
Family said Wednesday that Wilson remains in a come at The MED.
They fear retaliation because the suspects, a 15-year-old and 18-year-old Ashton Buford are gang members.
“Gang members don’t care what age you are as long as they can get that dollar bill. They don’t care who they hurt, as long as they are can go out and take from you,” said Jimmy Chambers with the Shelby County DA’s office.
Memphis Police released surveillance photos of the suspects days after the beating, and according the police report it was one of the suspects who called them to let them know he wasn’t involved.
That 15-year-old suspect was later charged.
Memphis Police did not confirm if there have been any other arrest or if they are looking for more suspects.
