(Memphis) Police say a North Memphis mom left her children home alone.
The children are 1 and 3 years old as well as a 1-month-old.
Neighbors say a Hilldale apartment manager discovered the kids were by themselves when she came into their apartment to do some maintenance work Tuesday morning.
They say from at least 8 a.m. until noon, the mother was nowhere to be found.
Neighbors don't know how long the mother left her children alone, but say four hours is long enough.
"It's sort of messed up because something could have happened to those children at any time," said Jamel Hightower, who lives in the apartment complex.
"You just don't do that," said Neighbor Clorinda Walker. "Babies are too precious."
Police and workers from the Department of Children Services came to the scene and around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Neighbors say state workers took the children away.
No charges yet have been filed against the mother.
