Man Killed in Rooming House Fire

(Memphis) Memphis firefighters are still searching for the cause of a deadly fire early this morning in the 300 block of Boyd in South Memphis.

The body of one man was discovered in the three-story rooming house.

The people who live in that boarding house said they did have smoke detectors which went off this morning.

But the residents say it was actually a neighbor who let them know their house was on fire.

When firefighters got to the house, they say there was heavy fire and smoke coming out of the back.

They were able to bring that fire under control in about 15 minutes.

Once the fire was out they were able to search the house, and that’s when they found the body of a man on the third floor.

Berico Miller lived on the second floor and told us he’s lucky to have made it out alive, “A smoke bomb rushed me when I came out of my room, and the fire was coming straight at me. I ran down the steps.”

The fire department has not released the name of the man killed in the fire.

Friends say he worked at a local barber shop with his son.
