Police: Mom Driving Drunk With Kids Crashes Car
(Memphis) A Memphis mother is accused of putting her kids lives at risk by driving drunk.
Police say 22-year-old Nicole Martinez was arrested after she was involved in a hit and run accident.
Her car flipped with two toddlers inside.
Martinez is facing a number of charges, including DUI child endangerment, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident involving an injury.
It happened Thursday night in the 3600 block of Lynchburg in Raleigh.
Donyelle Willis said she was sitting at a stop sign on Gloucester getting ready to cross Covington Pike, when she was hit by a car that appeared to come out of nowhere.
The impact was so hard, it pushed her car on the sidewalk and pinned her inside.
“I just heard the car pull off and I was like, ‘oh man,’ she got away or, whoever. I didn’t know who it was,” said Willis.
Police say the driver, Nicole Martinez, didn’t get very far.
Just a half mile away, she lost control of her car and flipped it in front of house at Gloucester and Lynchburg.
Officers say when they got there Martinez was lying on the grass with her two sons, ages 2 and 3, who were in the car with her.
They say her blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit.
“That’s terrible. I means just the whole situation. She’s not thoughtful in the whole situation with the kids,” said Willis.
The boys were taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, but are expected to be OK.
The children were strapped into their car seats.
In 2010 Martinez was arrested for driving with a revoked or suspended license and without insurance.
