Baby Found Near Drugs During Bust
(Memphis, TN) There are cars, trucks, a trailer, automobiles everywhere outside this home on Basswood Street. Officers first came here last week after they got a tip that someone inside was selling meth.
According to police documents, officers knocked on the door and said Maria Pearman answered and let them in. Officers say they found glass pipes, bags of meth, and a 10-month old baby boy near one of the glass pipes.
One neighbor said she didn’t know Pearman but knew her boyfriend James Smith. She says he seemed like a good dad and she had no idea he was allegedly using or selling drugs. The woman who didn’t want to be identified said there was a lot of traffic at the house. She said Smith worked on cars, for a living and that’s why she thought people were always there.
Smith was allegedly working in Mississippi the day police came to his house, according to police documents he admitted he got meth from a man he knew also from Mississippi.
