Dyer County Constable Accused of Child Porn
(Dyer County, TN) A constable in Dyer County has been charged with aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation arrested 29-year-old Derrick Shane Hundley over the weekend. A spokesperson told News Channel 3 the charge applies to cases of possessing child pornography.
Because these cases usually become federal investigations, TBI and FBI are working together. Hundley is still in custody on state charges.
Neighbors told News Channel 3 Hundley has been a constable in their district for about eight years. Before that, he was a Halls police officer. One neighbor said Hundley had wanted to study to become a state trooper.
In Dyer County, a constable is an elected position that does not earn a salary. A constable can be paid fees for serving warrants for the court system. They can also give people traffic citations and sometimes help the sheriff’s department with traffic control.
Ricky Hutching, who has known Hundley since he was a boy, said he was easily re-elected.
“He takes care of the neighborhood. He kept people from speeding around here, as the constable. People went to him with complaints about drug trafficking going on,” Hutching said.
Neighbor Jimmy Allen was also impressed with Hundley doing a good job at a relatively young age.
“When the flood came here a few years ago, he assisted people,” Allen said. “He was well liked and respected in this community.”
People describe Hundley as an outgoing, likable person.
Hundley keeps a unit next to his grandmother’s house, with the sign “constable” across the door.
Hundley owns Evergreen lawn care services, where an employee even said this arrest was the biggest shock of his life.
While some in Dyersburg say that they’re used to hearing about elected officials getting in trouble, they were not expecting Derrick Hundley to be next.
The investigation is still ongoing, and a Dyer County judge has sealed all details of the case from the public.
