Teen Shot Walking Down Street

(Memphis) Police are searching for the person who shot a teenage girl overnight.

The girl was walking down Sputnik Drive in the Oakhaven are when she was shot.

Police say the girl was just walking out to her boyfriend’s car to get something out when someone came up to her with a gun.

One neighbor, who doesn’t want to be identified, has been living on Sputnik Drive for six years.

She says they’ve never had a big problem with violence in the neighborhood, “It will kind of shake you up because I’m not use to that because could have been someone’s kids out here or anything.”

Police say the teen threw her hands up over her head when she saw the gunman, but it didn’t matter.

According to police she ran back into the house and her boyfriend and his step father took her to Methodist South.

From there, she was flown to the MED in critical condition.

That’s her last known condition.

Her neighbor says she saw her every day.

“She goes to school every day. She’s in summer school. She goes to school every day. She’s a nice young lady from what I know of her. And she’s respectful.”

One of the girl’s friends says he never thought she or anyone one else would have gotten shot on the street, “She was cool. She was going to school and stuff. That’s about it. There’s nothing I can really say.”
