(Lakeland, TN) Someone is apparently trying to stop the “Vote No” message for the municipal school referendum vote.

The “Vote No” signs are disappearing all across the suburban town.

“Lakeland appears to have a thief in the night,” said committee chairman, Jim Bomprezzi.

He heads up the Lakeland Committee Against Increasing Sales Tax and a Municipal School District and says he started getting calls of people reporting that signs had been taken from their yards. At $5.00 to $6.00 a sign, that begins to add up.

“The Lakeland Against the Municipal Schools issue and sales tax increase have worked hard and expended lots of money to buy these signs and worked hard to get out and put them up,” said Bomprezzi.

He filed a report with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office about the thefts.

He even checked with Lakeland Code Enforcement to make sure the signs weren’t taken up because of code violations. He says they weren’t. Bomprezzi says this is not something that will be taken lightly.

“I have a list of addresses that are calling in and I’m keeping a list because when we do prosecute these people will come forth and I will too as the chairman of this committee and prosecute the offender if and when they’re caught,” said Bomprezzi.

In the meantime, Bomprezzi offers a warning to those supporting the “VOTE NO” cause.

“Lakeland, be on the lookout for some sign thief because somebody’s out here taking our signs,” he said.

Bomprezzi says he will continue to put signs up.
