Memphis Fire Goes Door to Door
(Memphis) Memphis Fire Crews weren’t just waiting on you to call them to your home today. They were out looking for Memphis residents at their homes and checking to see that they were cool in the extreme heat.
News Channel 3 caught up with Lt. George Hammond as he and several other firemen went door to door in East Memphis in the Elliston Community. Many residents were curious about why they were there but once they figured out they were checking on their well-being, they were happy to see them.
“We encourage them to drink plenty of water and also to stay cool during the heat of the day…it seems like everybody is staying pretty cool using fans everyone that we’ve come across has working air conditioners,” said Lt Hammond.
Also while at homes they were checking for smoke detectors, installing them if needed and replacing batteries.
“I know a lot of people on this street so I check on them. They probably don’t like seeing me come to the door so much but it doesn’t hurt,” said Teresa Lee who was visited by the fire department Thursday.
Fire Crews have been out checking on residents all week-long.
