Memphians Stay Cool Ahead of Fireworks
(Memphis) A day activities and fireworks on Mud Island, sponsored in part by News Channel 3, drew hundreds of people who knew how to have fun while staying cool.
Many trees created shade, while children jumped in the fountain. While kids splashed, moms sat by the side, equipped for the day.
“We got extra water, sunscreen, mosquito pray and everything like that. So we’re good,” said Jennifer Rodriguez.
Her family came last year, but didn’t know about the fountain. This time, they were prepared with swimsuits.
“They didn’t get to play in the water last year, because we didn’t know about it, so, now they get to play in it. They’re pretty happy,” she said.
The most crowded spots were by the fountain, but also by the snow cone stand.
Kassandra Bowers waited for a lime-flavored snow cone. Ice is a way of hydrating, after all.
“And then you have a flavor with it, so it’s really good,” she said.
Bowers and her family enjoyed the water, the food and the music.
“I think it’s really great that Mud Island would open up and do this. It’s really good for our community too,” Bowers said.
At least the ways to keep cool involved having fun, and the grande finale of fireworks involved on sun at all.
