Beware of A/C Scams During Heat Wave
(Memphis) We all know the heat is on, which also means chances go up for thieves to take advantage of the situation. You’re running your air conditioner a lot, so this is prime time for repair season, and an opportunity for crooks to steal your money.
The Tennessee Department of Consumer Affairs reports an increase in calls about problem repair services. If you need to have your air conditioner repaired, consider these tips.
- Always get multiple quotes
- Get a reference from someone that’s used the business
- Be careful about responding to ads for free inspection and repair
- Carefully read over service contracts
Workers who complete jobs over $3,000 are also required to have a home improvement license in Shelby County. A general contractor’s license is required for heating and air projects over $25,000.
You can also check ratings with the Better Business Bureau, or see if the company is on the state’s buyer beware list.
