(Holly Springs, MS) Two fires leave a damaging trail in Holly Springs today, one started at a house, and the other at a local convenience store.

One fire has an easy answer.

The other one not so much.

In fact, arson investigators are being called in.

Two children were inside the home at on Hernando Road when lightning struck around 11 Monday morning.

The two children escaped without injury, but the fire caused heavy damage inside and out.

It’s the second major fire in Holly Springs in 24 hours.

At midnight, an explosion and fire leveled “Mike’s” Quick Stop on Highway 7 north.

The owner did not want to be on camera, but told News Channel Three there have been two attempted break in’s at his store in the last two weeks.

The fire did not reach a liquid propane gas company on the north side of the building.

However, firemen say they were concerned about flames reaching three gasoline storage tanks on the Quick Stop lot.

Denita Pegues has been a regular customer until Monday, “I’m shocked, actually. I just pulled up. iI really just realized, it was our favorite store, and it’s burned down. I don’t know what could have happened.”

The owner told us he doesn’t know either and that he makes sure the gas in the kitchen is turned off every night at closing.

Pegues says she’ll miss the store and the people who worked there, ”He’s a real good person, he real nice. The workers, the ladies that cook in there, they’re real nice, they’re real sweet.”

The Holly Springs Fire Marshall hasn’t determined a cause for the Quick Stop  fire and says a state arson investigator is supposed to be on the scene Tuesday.
