(Memphis) Donald Baker heard his neighbor screaming for help, looked outside and saw her home engulfed in flames.
"I'm still trembling", he said.
He didn't think even for a second, but ran to the front door, only when he got there it was locked.
"I kicked it in and the room was blazed with fire, real bad, so I called for her name. She was screaming and hollering and I said oh lord, she must be on fire because the fire was in her room," said Baker.
The smoke and flames were shooting from the center of the house, the same place his neighbor was screaming for help. Baker said he went to the side window, pulled out an air conditioning unit, and climbed inside, desperately trying to get to his neighbor before it was too late.
"I begged to the woman, 'please reach for my hand, come to my voice,' and 10 seconds later she came," he said. I reached for her and pulled her out of the house.
That's when firefighters got there, they rushed the woman to the hospital for safety and tried to stop the flames which shot into the sky. Neighbors wanted to know exactly how this house started burning. Shelton Hall said fires are happening in the city all the time.
I don't know if they're intentionally set or accidental." said Hall. He said there have been as many seven fires that he remembers recently.
Fire investigators says smoking materials probably caused the fire.
