Police Discover Suspected Thief At Stop Light
(Memphis) A Memphis landscaping company was ransacked and tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment was stolen.
One man is behind bars, but its believed others were involved.
The aluminum siding at the Rivertown Lawn Service now looks like splinters.
Police said Saturday, Walter Ward pried his way into the building, and took off with the equipment.
“Three trucks, three trailers, three tractors, all the weed eaters,” recalled owner, Donald Wolfe.
Wolfe opened up the business almost 40 years ago, how someone could just come in and threaten his family business is frustrating, “It’s a lot of money, not for the insurance to cover, the insurance goes up.”
According to police, Ward stripped the ignition in a truck before taking off through the gate.
He was later pulled over by police for running a stop light.
When Ward couldn’t answer any questions about the truck, police called the company and pieced together, Ward’s ride was hot.
I don’t know if we was the brains of the outfit,” said Wolfe.
A truck and other equipment is still missing.
“The other one will come up, it might be a while but it will come up,” said Wolfe.
Wolfe hopes anyone who knows where it might be or the others involved will call police.
With the other thieves still on the street, he warned, they could strike again.
” The same thing could happen to them. it happens all over this city every night. You don’t realize how much goes on,” said Ward.
