Police Catch Trolley Stop Robber
(Memphis) It’s a busy weekend in Memphis with Beale Street Music Festival and other activities getting underway.
Lots of folks are out and about.
Those enjoying the festivities can rest assured one guy won`t be joining the party, Kevin Dobbs, he`s in jail.
The Cleveland Avenue trolley stop is the last stop on the Downtown/Midtown trolley line.
It’s a spot Shane Kennedy frequents, “For the most part almost every day, I catch the trolley down to work. It’s reliable.”
Two weeks ago, a woman waiting at that same trolley stop was robbed.
The robber snatched her purse with $720 in it and ran away.
“The further you get downtown and kind of around this area, of course is not the best part of town, but it’s kind of a risk we take, I guess,” said Kennedy.
“You are going to have incidents. This is society. You have predators in society,” said Michael Merritt, Midtown trolley passenger.
According to police, Dobbs was a busy man that night, because just 10 minutes before they say he’d been at the Walgreens at Poplar and Cleveland and he’d robbed another woman.
Lois Bryant who owns Pyramid Beauty and Barber school near the trolley line believes the surveillance cameras watching over the trolley stop helped police solve the crime.
Police had a picture of the suspect and both victims were able to pick him out of a photo lineup.
“It caught the guy that did something to the lady the other night so that helped. Probably need more cameras,” said Lois Bryant.
