(Cordova, TN) Memphis Police need to identify a man they say is now tied to six sexual assaults in the Cordova area.
“It’s scared me and it takes away your sense of security,” said Janie Wilson who lives nearby.
Surveillance photos were taken after police say the man raped and robbed a woman on Oak Springs Drive early one morning in 2010.
He then used the credit card to make a purchase and was caught on tape.
The sexual assault left many changing their routines to protect themselves.
Wilson also leaves early in the morning for work! “I don’t go out in the morning and get my paper,” said Wilson. “When I leave in the morning. I’m in the garage and my car is locked and when I open the garage door, I’m much more aware of my surroundings.”
Memphis Police say DNA evidence is what connects the same person to the assaults, but they don’t have a name to connect to that DNA, just yet.
Helen Herbers hopes it comes soon.
She has granddaughters to protect.
“I just make sure they stay together when they go outside, that they don’t separate and that they don’t go too far from home,” she said.
Wilson added, “I just think that people have the right to stay safe in their own home.”
The six women fell victim to the rapist over a seven-year period, dating back to 2003.
Wilson is hoping they catch the guy before he strikes again.
She says she doesn’t want to be a prisoner in her own home.
“It makes you wonder do I need to sell my house and find a new home,” asked Wilson, “but where do you go?”
Anyone who could help police identify that man is urged to call CrimeStoppers at 901.528.CASH.
