Mother Accused Of Running Ex Off Road With Child In Car

(Near Millington,TN) A Mother is behind bars accused of driving drunk and running her boyfriend off the road with her child in her back seat.

Twenty-eight-year-old Crystal Brookins was charged with aggravated assault, driving under the influence and child endangerment after the crash last night at Martin and Division.

Sheriff’s deputies say Brookins admitted to drinking and taking prescription drugs before she got behind the wheel.

Deputies say Brookins and her ex-boyfriend Eddie Lewis got into a fight and Lewis called a friend to come pick him up.

They say when the friend got there Brookins got into her van and hit the friend’s SUV in the front and then rammed it from behind several times.

The impact caused the SUV to run off the road and overturn.

“She apparently had consumed a 24 ounce beer and again had been taking prescription drugs. As we know, any combination can be lethal and with a child in the car could have been a whole lot worse,” said Chip Washington with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

The child was not hurt and is with family members.

Brookins is being held on $55,000 bond.
