West Memphis Officer Gone After DWI

(West Memphis, AR) A  West Memphis police officer is arrested for Driving While Intoxicated.

Officer Steven McCorkle was arrested Saturday night.

Monday morning he resigned from the West Memphis Police Department.

McCorkle was driving along Interstate 40 in Crittenden County when he was pulled over.

According to jail records McCorkle was arrested for not having break lights, speeding, and Driving While Intoxicated.

McCorkle was also arrested for disorderly conduct, refusing a breath test, and not having insurance.

News Channel 3 reached out for comment at McCorkle’s home in West Memphis on Monday, but he did not come to the door.

West Memphis Police Chief Donald Oaks told News Channel 3 he couldn’t comment on the pending investigation, but said McCorkle had been with the department for a little under two years.

Monday morning West Memphis residents like Shawn Ryan, were stunned to hear the news, ”It’s ironic, I’ll tell you that.”

McCorkle is out of jail on a $2,860 bond.

McCorkle’s attorney entered a plea of not guilty at a court appearance Monday morning.  His next court date is June 8th.
