(Southaven, MS) Discount dollar stores have become a recent target for robbers.
This is the third Dollar General in Southaven robbed in the last two months.
“It’s shocking to hear that it happened,” said Tony Jennings. “It’s not good for this area.”
The store on Airways was robbed around 9:00 on Wednesday night.
Southaven Police say two masked men with guns forced employees and customers to get on the ground while they took money from the registers and the manager’s office.
Thankfully, no one was hurt, but a concerned caller said that might not always be the case.
He said his friend is a Dollar General employee and believes the company is not doing enough to protect its employees in light of all the robberies.
Tony Jennings says he knows a quick and easy fix, “It’s always good to have a security guard around and especially now that trend is here,” said Jennings. “I think that’s something [Dollar General has] to look into.”
Police have not determined whether or not Wednesday’s robbery was connected to the others.
Jennings just hopes police will find them before they hit again, “Crime is everywhere now, but the crooks know where the money is and they’ll just follow it.”
News Channel 3 tried to find out on what conditions Dollar General would supply a security officer, but our phone calls were not returned.
Anyone with information on the robbery is encouraged to call Southaven Police at 662-393-8652.
