  • The site sells the city
  • Hoping to create young leaders through young professionals

Several dozen college students from Iowa and Texas were the first to hear the Choose 901 pitch this morning. They’re in Memphis for the week to learn about the city and give back. But they are also being encouraged to consider Memphis after graduation.

23-year-old Tim Reid now calls Memphis home after graduating from West Virginia in May. He’s employed, living in midtown and involved.

“I would say keep an open mind. A year ago today I would have never would have thought I’d be in Memphis,” said Reid.

The new campaign and website Choose901.com is hoping to attract other recent grads like Reid.

The site shows off some of the people, places, events, history and opportunities Memphis has to offer. City Leadership is behind the push and says young adults are Memphis’ future.

“Eventually these twenty year olds that we already have and the twenty year olds that we would recruit to the city, would eventually be the leadership of Memphis in 2020 to 2040,” said City Leadership Executive Director John Carroll.

The Choose 901 campaign is also pushing several programs in Memphis  that are designed for recent grads, like the Church Health Center  scholars program which offers full-time employment as well as hands on experience.

“But then we hope that they fall in love with the city fall with each other, sometimes literally,” said Carroll.

They are depending on social media to help spread the word.  They hope Choose 901 will bring and keep young people who will have a positive impact economically in Memphis.
