  • Memphis police say a 13-year-old Georgian Hills Middle School student was sexually assaulted
  • The apparent attack happened in the school’s bathroom
  • A 14-year-old student is the accused attacker

(Memphis )     Memphis police are investigating a report of a sexual assault inside a Memphis middle school.

Police say a 14-year-old student sexually assaulted a 13-year-old student in a bathroom at Georgian Hills Middle School.  They say the attack happened Monday, but was not reported until Tuesday afternoon.

The ongoing investigation was a shock to many Georgian Middle School parents who say they hadn’t heard of the apparent assault.

“That was a shock.  I just can’t believe that,” said Orlena Carvin, who has a 12-year-old daughter who attends the school.  “They have so much security in the school, you wouldn’t think anything like that would happen.”

The reported attack has parents and people in the community calling for more structure and supervision.

“They’re at the age where they’re online and all that stuff.  I had to take Facebook away.  You never know.  You never know,” Carvin said.

A relative of one Georgian Hills teacher, who did not want to be identified, had strong words.

“They took pride out of schools and put mess in it,” she said.  “They need to let those teachers whip those children’s butts.  It’s hard to manage a classroom that size.  I’m old school,” she added.

Memphis police say the investigation is ongoing, and so far no charges have been filed.
